Mo Claiborne wore 24 during his time in Dallas, so when he signed with the Jets this past spring he requested his number. The New York Jets declined his request because that number will be retired whenever Darrell Revis decides to hang it up. Claiborne eventually settled for 21 stating he “understands the history behind that number”. I understand the Jets for this as Darrell Revis despite his down fall last season and his super bowl victory with the Patriots, will be one of the greatest players to wear a Jets uniform. It doesn’t seem as if this bothered Claiborne much at all understanding the history, he went on to say that he “is not trying to fill Darrell’s shoes”. It is interesting to see though the Jets are already focused on their jersey retiring ceremony for one of the greatest corners ever.
