This past weekend there has been a ton of positive news regarding the Jets landing Kirk Cousins. It all started late last week when AJ McCarron won his hearing, ultimately allowing him to become an UFA in March. This will benefit the Jets as he will be a cheaper option for teams like the Broncos and Browns.
Next came some news on Saturday that executives around the league believe the Jets could give Kirk a fully guaranteed contract. Giving him a fully guaranteed deal is perfectly fine with me, we know what kind of QB he is, he’s not going to play poorly & quite frankly – we desperately need a quarterback.
Finally, this morning per Rich Cimini of ESPN New York, the Jets will do “whatever it takes” to land Kirk Cousins. Whatever it takes huh? What is that exactly going to be? If I had to guess we’re looking at a $150 million deal with $100 million guaranteed with an annual salary of around $30 million. That’s a heck of a lot of money to throw out there, but like I’ve said and supported from Day 1 – it’ll be well worth it.
I’m confident the Jets will do whatever they can to finally land a franchise quarterback this team has been dying for. Once we lock him up we’ll be able to round out the rest of the roster knowing the quarterback position is already taken care of.
