Ahhh Jets fans we can finally exhale a little bit here, I forgot just how good “victory Monday” feels after our team gets the W on Sunday. The Jets had a perfect bounce back game against the Broncos, taking care of business pretty much the whole way after Isaiah Crowell’s 70 yard touchdown run. Sam Darnold and the offense looked great, the defense played fast and physical and we received a solid day from our special teams. Coming home for a 3 game stand in our own building will be welcomed by this team after playing 3 of our first 4 games on the road to start the season. Kicking this stand off with a convincing victory is even more important, hopefully this team can show us a little more consistency then they have over the past few years and take care of business against the Colts in week 6. I was impressed, hats off to the players for executing and hats off to the Jets coaching staff for putting together a game plan that seemed to hit on every cylinder.
Week 5 Observations:
- The offense ran the damn ball all over the Broncos from start to finish ending the day with 323 rushing yards and 1 long touchdown from Isaiah Crowell – a 70 yard beaut. This is what needs to happen on a more consistent basis if the Jets want to continue with any type of success, they need to establish the run behind a productive offensive line. Who also had a very good day, opening gaping holes for our running backs and giving Sam Darnold ample time to sit in the pocket and create some plays with his arm. I am confident the Jets will look to upgrade at some spots along the offensive line during the offseason but with what we have for this year this is the type of success they need to strive to have week in and week out.
- The defense played a sound game, cleaning up the mess of a performance they turned it last week in Jacksonville. Creating 4 sacks and holding the Broncos to 92 yards rushing was the key for what the Jets were able to do on defense. This forced Case Keenum to take the game into his own hands and try and find success through the air, which he couldn’t – even without Trumaine Johnson and Buster Skrine. The Colts have a few guys banged up on the offensive side of the ball in Ty Hilton, Marlon Mack and Jack Doyle this will be something to keep an eye on as the week progresses. The Jets will look to continue their defensive success for a second straight week if any of these guys are inactive again will only help their chances at another successful performance.
- I have to tip my to the coaching staff this week, I mean I was all over them the weeks leading up to this game – rightfully so. But when they put together a good game and put these guys in positions to succeed they deserve their credit. Especially Todd Bowles who called a great defensive game with Kacy Rodgers away from the team dealing with an illness. If these coaches can get into a groove and we start winning some games here consecutively the Jets could be in a competitive spot after the world was ending for everyone the past three weeks. It all started against the Broncos and needs to continue against the Colts.
