The Jets figures to be active over the last few days when roster cuts were beginning across the NFL. The Jets made four waiver claims to add as much talent as possible to the 53 man roster.
WR Braxton Berrios
DL John Franklin-Myers
K Kaare Vedvik
S Bennett Jackson
The two names that stand out to me on this list are Kaare Vedvik and Braxton Berrios.
Kaare Vedvik will be the next kicked up to claim his stake to be the Jets kicker, the third such kicker this summer. Vedvik saw success early this summer with the Ravens which lead to the Minnesota Vikings trading a 2020 5th round pick to acquire him. Since that trade Vedvik cooled off, ultimately losing the the position battle to veteran Dan Bailey. The Jets as well as their fans are hoping Vedvik can solidify the position once and for all and be their kicker moving forward.
As for Braxton Berrios he figures to be in line to be the Jets WR4/WR5, as well as the starting punt returner. All summer Greg Dortch was turning heads with his skill set as a punt returner and was slowly improving as a receiver. Now that Berrios is in the mix and Dortch has been waved, that leads me to believe Dortch wasn’t making as big of an impact as a receiver to justify giving him the roster spot with a guy like Berrios available. I’m very interested to see how Adam Gase uses someone like Berrios, also how he fairs as the starting punt returner.
